    Protecting the Protector: Mapping the Key Terrain that Supports the Continuous Monitoring Mission of a Cloud Cybersecurity Service Provider

    Key terrain is a concept that is relevant to warfare, military strategy, and tactics. A good general maps out terrain to identify key areas to protect in support of a mission (i.e., a bridge allowing for mobility of supplies and reinforcements). Effective ways to map terrain in Cyberspace (KT-C) has been an area of interest for researchers in Cybersecurity ever since the Department of Defense designated Cyberspace as a warfighting domain. The mapping of KT-C for a mission is accomplished by putting forth efforts to understand and document a mission\u27s dependence on Cyberspace and cyber assets. A cloud Cybersecurity Service Provider (CSSP) continuously monitors the network infrastructure of an information system in the cloud ensuring its security posture is within acceptable risk. This research is focused on mapping the key terrain that supports the continuous monitoring mission of a cloud CSSP. Traditional methods to map KT-C have been broad. Success has been difficult to achieve due to the unique nature of the Cyberspace domain when compared to traditional warfighting domains. This work focuses on a specific objective or mission within cyberspace. It is a contextual approach to identify and map key terrain in cyberspace. Mapping is accomplished through empirical surveys conducted on Cybersecurity professionals with various years of experience working in a cloud or CSSP environment. The background of the Cybersecurity professionals participating in the survey will include United States Government personnel/contractors, and other Cybersecurity practitioners in the private sector. This process provided an approach to identify and map key terrain in a contextual manner specific to the mission of a typical cloud CSSP. Practitioners can use it as a template for their specific cloud CSSP mission

    Instruments of the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment (ERBE) are operating on three different Earth orbiting spacecrafts: the Earth Radiation Budget Satellite (ERBS), NOAA-9, and NOAA-10. An overview is presented of the ERBE mission, in-orbit environments, and instrument design and operational features. An overview of science data processing and validation procedures is also presented. In-flight operations are described for the ERBE instruments aboard the ERBS and NOAA-9. Calibration and other operational procedures are described, and operational and instrument housekeeping data are presented and discussed

    The Effects of Geometry and Architecture of Polymer Matrix Composites on Acoustic Emissions

    The purpose of this project is to study how the variance of the geometry and architecture of polymer matrix composites (PMCs) affect the acoustic emissions measured whilst said structures are subjected to tensile stress. In these tests, a method called Modal AE will be utilized. In Modal AE, some relationships between sources and waves in various materials and geometries are presented in other papers/research. This study will focus on how different thickness and different makeup/ply patterns affect the acoustic emission tests. Some research has been completed and shown how energy attenuation affects the frequency content on PMCs similar to the ones chosen for this project. Using a similar test setup and analysis the goal of this project is to see if the thickness/geometry of these samples will affect energy attenuation and therefore affect frequency content. The reason frequency content is so important in AE is that it is a method of exploring the different damage modes PMCs experience during stress tests. From this data more information can be obtained about frequency content and the effects that energy attenuation/architecture/geometry can have on PMCs. These AE events can also be used to identify the location of a break and to see how internal breaks have propagated through the structure. Polymer matrix composites (PMCs) are widely used in the aerospace industry, particularly in structures securing thrust generating systems to the primary structure. Each test subjects a polymer matrix composite (PMC) of a specific thickness and weave design to determine the damage modes for each sample. The peak frequency of the propagated acoustic emissions with respect to the time domain will also be measured
